Our Story · Since 2020

Making kilts properly since 2020

We launched Scotland Clothes with a clear intention: make Scottish dress the way it deserves to be made. Custom fit, proper materials, no shortcuts. Five years in, that has not changed.

Where it all began

Started in 2020, still going the same way

We launched Scotland Clothes in 2020 — not the easiest year to start a business. But the gap we were filling was clear. The kilts being sold online ranged from barely adequate to outright poor. Nobody was building them properly to actual measurements. We thought that was something worth fixing.

From day one, every order was custom. Your waist, your length, your tartan. No stock sizes, no guessing. The kilt built around the person wearing it. Word spread faster than we expected. In our first year, orders arrived from four continents. By 2022 we had shipped to over thirty countries.

Five years on, the scale is bigger. The tartan range now runs to over a thousand fabrics. The team has grown. The method has not changed at all. Custom made, properly fitted, shipped anywhere in the world. That was the idea in 2020 and that is still exactly what we do.

We launched during a year when nothing was predictable. The one thing we kept constant was how we made the kilts. It turned out that was the right call.

How we work

The craft behind every kilt

A kilt is not a complicated garment in concept. Eight yards of cloth, pleated at the back, flat at the front, fastened at the waist. The complications come from doing it right. The pleating has to be even. The sett has to run correctly through the pleats. The fall has to sit at the right point on the knee. Every one of those details requires skill, not just a production line.

We work with experienced kiltmakers who have spent years on this. Every kilt is hand-pleated and hand-stitched. We do not cut corners because the corners are the difference between a kilt that fits and moves well and one that does not. That difference is entirely in the details.

The fabrics come from Scottish mills with long histories of supplying kiltmakers. Heavy wool for traditional kilts, poly-viscose for kilts that need to travel well, denim and leather for utility and fashion styles. We pick the fabric for what the kilt will be used for, not for what reduces the cost of making it.

The craft behind every kilt

Milestones

Five years, one way of working

We have grown every year since 2020 without changing the thing that made it work. Every year has taught us something. Most of what it has taught us is that the basics — good materials, proper fit, honest communication — do not need replacing with something cleverer.

The milestones we are most proud of are not growth numbers. They are the moments where we got better at the craft itself.

2020

Scotland Clothes launches

Launched in a difficult year with one principle: every kilt custom made to measurement, no exceptions. First orders shipped within weeks of opening.

2021

International orders begin

Customers across the US, Canada, Australia and mainland Europe found us within our first full year. Worldwide shipping became a permanent part of the operation.

2022

Tartan range expands to 500+

The fabric library grew to over five hundred tartans, making it possible to serve a far wider range of clan families and regional preferences properly.

2023

Women's kilts and utility range added

Women's kilts and a full utility kilt range became permanent categories, built to the same standard as everything else. Nothing added unless we could make it properly.

2024

1000+ tartans. 50+ countries.

The full tartan range passed a thousand fabrics. Orders now arrive regularly from over fifty countries. Every kilt still custom made to individual measurements.

Today

Still doing it the same way

Custom made, properly fitted, shipped worldwide. The range is bigger and the reach is wider. The way we work has not changed one bit since 2020.

What we make

The full range of Scottish clothing

We carry over a hundred types of kilts alongside a complete range of Scottish accessories, outfits and tartan clothing. Every category got added because customers asked for it and we could make it to the right standard. Nothing is in the range to fill out a page.

Whether you are dressing for a wedding, a Highland Games, a Burns Night, a graduation or simply want to wear a kilt on a Tuesday — we have what you need. And if you are not sure what that is, we are here to help you figure it out.

How it works

From your measurements to your door

You send your measurements

Natural waist and kilt length. Two numbers is all we need to start. Our size guide walks you through taking them correctly so there is no guesswork involved.

You choose your tartan

Over 1000 tartans available. Clan tartans, regional tartans, universal tartans, solid colours. Not sure which one is yours? We can help you work it out.

We build it for you

Your kilt is cut, pleated and hand-stitched to your exact measurements. Standard delivery takes 12 to 17 days. Rush orders are available when you need it sooner.

We ship it to your door

Worldwide shipping via trusted couriers. Tracked, insured, packaged properly. If it does not fit because we made an error, we replace it. No arguments.

We have shipped kilts to over fifty countries since 2020. Every single one was built to the measurements of the person who ordered it. That will never change.

Scotland Clothes — Our commitment

Our promise to you

What you can always expect from us

We are not the cheapest option available. We are also not the most expensive. What we are is consistent. Every order receives the same attention whether it is a single kilt or a full wedding party.

If something is not right when your order arrives, tell us. We will sort it. That is not a policy written for our website — it is simply how we have always operated since we opened in 2020.

Custom tailored every time

Every garment built to your measurements. Not to a size chart. Not to what we have in stock. To you, specifically.

Worldwide shipping

We ship to over fifty countries. Tracked, insured and packaged correctly so your order arrives in the same condition it left us.

We fix our mistakes

If a fit issue is on our end, we replace it at no cost. Contact us within 7 days of delivery. Simple as that.

Real people, real answers

Not a chatbot. Not a generic FAQ. If you have a question about sizing, tartan selection or anything else, email us and a person answers.

What you can always expect from us

What we stand for

Three things we never compromise on

Fit above everything

A kilt that does not fit properly is a kilt that sits in a wardrobe. Every decision about how we build our garments starts with one question: will this fit the person who ordered it? If the answer is no, we do not do it that way.

Materials that last

Lightweight alternatives look fine in product photos. After a year of real wear the difference becomes obvious. We use the same quality fabrics that Scottish mills have supplied to kiltmakers for generations.

Honesty over marketing

We will not tell you something is in stock when it is not. We will not promise a delivery date we cannot meet. Five years of this has taught us that customers value straight answers more than polished ones.
